Path to Equality: Korean Studies Network on Inclusion

PROJECT CONTEXT

This project will work on several lines in parallel because of their level of interrelation. First, the project will develop postgraduate studies in Korean Studies at the University of Malaga, mainly at the doctoral level. The objective is to facilitate the training of the next generation of Korean Studies specialists in Spanish-speaking countries. Secondly, and closely related to the first, we will work on the approach and consolidation of a line of research focused on slavery and marginalized groups in Korea from which to develop. This research will be developed by a multidisciplinary group and from a comparative perspective, in order to bring the debates on slavery and marginality in Korean Studies into contact with other fields. The present research project focuses on the exploration of the different processes of liberation of private slaves and their social careers, as well as the progressive integration of women in the public sphere. To this end, studies will be developed on the different mechanisms of domination inherent in slavery and the subordinate situation of women, and the struggle to overcome this situation of domination, from an individual or collective point of view. In this way, the project will contribute to our knowledge of Korean social and cultural history.
