Research Methodology Seminar in the Field of Korean Studies: Social and Cultural History of Marginality and Inclusion

The seminar offered, through six theoretical and practical sessions, a critical approach to research methods and techniques within the field of Korean Studies, focusing on topics related to the social and cultural history of marginality and inclusion. The aim of the seminar was to introduce participants to the main historiographical currents related to the central research theme, as well as to specific research methods used within these historiographical trends, and to critically explore the development of specific methodologies applied to the participants’ individual research projects.

The seminar was structured around six sessions. The first part focused on analyzing different research methodologies used in relevant academic projects. This section’s dynamic included a brief presentation based on the assigned readings, followed by practical sessions in which participants analyzed the key methodological elements. These sessions involved practical work in reading and critically evaluating significant historiographical works, aiming to reverse-engineer the research methods employed in the production of those works.

The second part of the seminar centered on the individual presentation of the research methodology developed by each participant in relation to their research question. These presentations aimed to outline the intellectual context of each research project and highlight its main methodological contribution. In this regard, the relationship between the research problem and the chosen methodology for addressing it was discussed.
