The “Summer Course: Introduction to Korean-Spanish Translation” began last June 20 at the Faculty of Social and Labor Studies, organized by the East Asian Studies Area of the Department of Historical Sciences of the UMA and the Korea Literary Translation Institute (LTI, Korea).
The aim of this activity is to provide specific training to those interested in the field of translation from Korean into Spanish and to initiate the next generation of Korean-Spanish translators. During the course, the 13 participating students will periodically translate the work “슬픈 어항” by the renowned South Korean author Kim Soom. A bilingual edition of the story will be published upon completion of the translation and revision of the story.
The course is taught by Professor Antonio J. Domenech, from the East Asian Studies Area of the UMA and expert in Korean-Spanish translation, and also has for one of its sessions with the online assistance of the author of the story.
For its inauguration, the expert in translation of Chinese literature, Alicia Relinque, professor at the University of Granada, gave an introduction to the translation techniques of languages as far away from Spanish as Chinese and Korean, entitled “On literary translation (or the impossibility of untranslatability)”.
The course will culminate on July 13 with a literary evening that will take place at Ateneo Malaga at 19:30 pm, where there will be a dramatized reading of the translated story and several performances of music and dance.
