On April 28, 2025, Professor Marlena Oleksiuk from the University of Wroclaw held a lecture titled as “Presentation on Polish Korean Studies” for the students of the East Asian Studies Degree, in which she talked about Korean Studies taking place in Poland. Korean Studies started in 2019, however, from 2020 the degree has become more popular due to the Korean Wave. Also, he mentioned that the University of Warsaw was the first to put Korean Studies in Poland and it was started in the year 1953, first within the major of China Studies and then in Japan Studies. On the other hand, the University of Poznan does not focus so much on Korean language, but includes studies on Korean history, art, anthropology, etc. At the University of Krakow Korean Studies is a double degree with classes taught in English, which cooperates with Keimyung University in Daegu.
Students, in addition to studying Korean, are required to choose a second Asian language such as Chinese or Japanese, and take calligraphy classes which are very popular among students. Sometimes they have visits and karaoke parties, Korean barbecues in May before final exams, official events and lectures. Last year they celebrated 30 years of cooperation between Poland and Korea.
