The Department of East Asian Studies was pleased to present the film series “The Female Gaze in Korean Cinema,” a program that included lectures and film screenings followed by a film forum.

This event was organized in collaboration with CineAsia, a platform dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of Asian cinema in the Spanish-speaking world. CineAsia worked to bring the diversity and richness of Asian cinema to the public through film series, publications, and educational activities. It was also the organizer of the Korean Film Festival in Spain.

This activity was part of the University of Málaga’s project with the Academy of Korean Studies titled “Path to Equality: Korean Studies Network on Inclusion” (AKS-2021-INC-2250002).

The aim of this series was to highlight the work of women in the South Korean film industry, tracing its history from the earliest female directors in a male-dominated environment to the present-day filmmakers who were shaping the future of Korean cinema.
